OUR HISTORY
History of Glorietta F. Duncan Grand Guild Heroines of Templars Crusade Oklahoma Jurisdiction (P.H.A.)
It was the vision of the Honorable Dr. Deary Vaughn, Grand Master of Prince Hall Masons Oklahoma Jurisdiction to complete the Oklahoma Prince Hall Masonic Family by adding the last lawful member, Heroines of Templars Crusade.
After much contemplating and strategic planning, Grand Master Vaughn arranged for a group of twelve (12) sisters to travel to Ft Worth, Texas to be initiated into the Heroines of Templars Crusade. This historical occasion occurred on June 24, 1988. Hence forth the mission began to organize four subordinate guilds in Oklahoma to set the stage for a Grand Guild.
September 24, 1988, a group of 46 ladies met in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, King David Lodge Hall to be initiated into the Guild. Out of this group came the first two subordinate guilds, one to be established in Oklahoma City and the other in Muskogee.
The Oklahoma City group chose as a name "Fannie G. W. McDonald Guild No. 1” and Princess Hattie Oliver was appointed as the Princess Captain. The Muskogee group held its first meeting on October 12th, 1988 and chose as its name "Mary Lou Whitby Guild No. 2". The name was chosen in honor of Heroine Mary Lou Whitby who served the masonic family for twenty (20) years as the Grand Most Ancient Matron, Heroines of Jericho. Princess Anna Johnson was appointed as the Princess Captain.
The third subordinate guild was established October 1 st, 1988, Tulsa, Oklahoma with ten (10) ladies. The ladies believed that the time had arrived to honor Ms. Willie Mae Colbert who for many years served as the office manager for Prince Hall Grand Lodge Office during its location in Tulsa. Willie Mae Colbert Guild No. 3 took its rightful place in line and Princess Margaret Marshall was appointed as the Princess Captain.
The fourth subordinate guild came on board October 29, 1988 in Lawton, Oklahoma. This group chose as its name "Mount Moriah Guild No. 4. There were fifteen (15) ladies in this group and Princess Patricia Aikens was appointed as the Princess Captain.
With the four subordinate guilds in place, a summon went out to all the newly initiated Princesses of the Oklahoma Jurisdiction to assemble on January 28, 1989, Camelot Hotel, Tulsa, Oklahoma for the purpose of organizing a Grand Guild. It was decided that this grand body would bear the name of "GLORIETTA F. DUNCAN GRAND GUILD HEROINES OF TEMPLARS HEROINES OF TEMPLARS CRUSADE" in honor of the late Ms. Glorietta F. Duncan who had given many years of loyal and dedicated service to the Oklahoma Prince Hall Family as its first lady, wife of the late Grand Master Herman E. Duncan.
